DIGITAL DIGEST | MARCH 2024

April gave us our favorite babies, Blood Dragons, and tons of other super cool new physical games. But that’s not what May is going to be about. We’ll be reaching into our back catalog and clearing out our warehouse with two HUGE sales for in-person and online shoppers. So gas up your car, get your credit card details saved and get ready to join us for our biggest Blowouts yet.

And at the end of the blog, you might be rewarded with a little taste of what we’ve got planned for summer…

Find out MORE about our Big Big Big Tent Sale!

Who says we can’t celebrate two years of Limited Run Retail while doing a little spring cleaning?

We’ve got an event too big for the store, so we’re setting up the biggest tent money can rent right in front of our HQ and filling it with overstock, returns, and other slightly worn items that we can’t sell at our Blowout Sale. EVERYTHING will be marked down well below MSRP (with some items as low as $1 👀). We’ll even be giving out trading cards to buyers while supplies last! Everything has got to GO!

The event runs on Saturday, May 18 from 10am-3pm and Sunday, May 19th from 10am-2pm or until everything is sold out—whichever comes first!

The sale will be located in the front parking lot at:
1101 Perry Road
Apex, NC 27502

Visitors will be permitted to line up no earlier than 8:00am. Parking will be available on-site at this time, and some of the neighboring businesses have agreed to allow overflow parking in the event that our lot is full. If you can carpool with a buddy, that would be excellent! Check out the handy map below or follow the signs at the event to see where you can and cannot park.

Porta-potties will be provided in case you need a bathroom break, and this will be an outdoor event—rain or shine—so check the weather reports and dress accordingly.

This is What You’ve Been Waiting For—The 2024 Blowout Sale!

Are you ready for the big Blowout?

Every year, we take inventory of games left over after sales, conventions, and replacements and put ‘em up for grabs for 24 hours! This year, the big event is happening on May 27th, starting at 10am Eastern.

Blind Boxes will return alongside a plethora of our best games from the last few years. And, of course, everything will be available in extremely LIMITED quantities!

So mark your calendars, save your card details, and get ready to BLOWOUT the warehouse!

We’re back with another feature rollout for coyotesuccess.com! A few weeks ago, we outlined some of the next steps that Limited Run is taking to make your checkout experience the smoothest and easiest it can be. This is a process we plan on constantly evolving and fine-tuning to meet our customer’s needs based on feedback we received, so let’s take a look at what you have to look forward to next.

EU/UK PayPal support coming this March!

We’re officially ready to begin rolling out support for PayPal for pre-orders! Our first step will be allowing our friends across the pond to start using PayPal in just a few short weeks. Starting March 1st, this feature will be part of our checkout process for customers in the UK and EU! More territories to follow shortly!

Update: Consolidated Orders Page!

The heavy lifting has been completed to get ALL your orders, both through the Shopify checkout system AND ALL Purple Dot orders, showing up on one page in your account center. The last step we must take to complete this feature is coding and styling it for our site to make it easy to read and navigate, which shouldn’t take too much longer! Our next update will be all about the new My Orders page.

Minor Fixes!

Thanks to your feedback, we’ve been working hard to correct small issues across our new checkout system, including making the UI easier to read/load faster and allowing addresses to pre-fill if you’re logged in to your LRG account. We’re continuing to monitor your feedback and log items to be fixed, so if you have something to share, we invite you to join the conversation on our Reddit Megathread. We’re monitoring your comments and meeting about them regularly to ensure you have the best shopping experience at LRG that we can deliver.

Continue to thank everyone for your honest feedback and continued support of physical games. Tune in next time for a tour of our new order page and a sneak peek at coyotesuccess.com’s next big cosmetic upgrade! Until then, keep an eye on social media for the latest updates about our website planned for this Spring!]]>

DIGITAL DIGEST | January 2024

Happy New Year! LRG started 2024 doing what we do best, bringing you all fantastic titles like Cosmic Fantasy Collection, El Shaddai, Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, and Rocket Knight Adventures: Re-Sparked! We’ve got big plans for the first half of the year, so let’s share some of those with you now, starting with…

An update on our Blowout Sale!

We had previously moved our annual Blowout Sale from the first week of January to February 19th. This was to give our team extra time to keep working on warehouse improvements central to our goal of streamlining our shipping and production processes and getting games out faster to you all.

In addition, we are committed to having Blind Boxes, which we’ve offered in previous years, in hand and ready to ship before the sale starts. Considering this and continued work on our warehouse, we’ve decided to implement one FINAL delay.

Our Blowout Sale will now occur on Monday, May 27th, 2024. This will give us the time to make this Blowout the best one for our customers and give us more time to continue improving shipping times. Thank you for understanding!

But wait, there’s more!

Just because we’re moving the Blowout Sale back doesn’t mean you won’t have something to look forward to this spring. In addition to our incredible Q1 lineup, we’ll hold a special March Madness Sale on our Amazon store. We’ll have more details to share about timing and titles next month, but we wanted to let you know now to help you plan your next hunt!

January 2-5-8 Milestone Updates

Every month, we comb through and send out updates for titles whose pre-order periods ended two, five, or eight months before and hit your inbox with a status update. If you’ve missed our emails (check your spam!), here’s a big ol’ batch of milestone updates for you!

State of the Website 2024, Vol. 1: New Purple Dot Bundling Options

Hello everyone! Bringing Purple Dot to LRG has been a big change, and we see that many of you have lots of questions and concerns about the changeover. We want you to know that we hear you and are actively incorporating your feedback into our systems. To show you that, we’ll be publishing these short updates as new features go live so you can stay on top of the new changes to our pre-order system!

In addition, we’ve got some new website updates planned for the future. This blog series will share those updates and news about our EU website as we begin to roll them out over the next several months.

NEW FEATURE: More Options to Bundle!

We’ve made some improvements to the checkout UI to make the process easier and clearer (especially for mobile users). While doing that, we added more options for you to choose how your order ships right out of the gate. One of the biggest reasons we switched to Purple Dot to manage pre-orders was customer feedback about choosing when items ship, so this update was built around giving you as many options as possible.

The first thing you’ll notice are those new shipping options:

  • Wait until everything is ready - This is how pre-orders worked previously at LRG. We hold your order and combine everything into one shipment. Though this is usually the most cost-saving option, your order will not ship until all items are out of production.
  • Ship in-stock now, everything else later - Let’s say you wanted to pick up an in-stock Press Run book and some of our latest pre-orders. This option allows us to ship that in-stock item straight away and hold your pre-orders together until they are all ready to go.
  • As soon as each item is ready - Get your stuff as quickly as possible! In the example cart above, this allows in-stock items to ship right away, followed by each pre-order as they become available.

Curious about the shipping breakdown? You can expand your selection to see how the rate breaks down and when you’ll receive your order, so you can make the best decision.

We hope that these extra options make pre-ordering with LRG a smooth process!

COMING SOON: Consolidated Order Page

Don’t want to keep track of all those Purple Dot order numbers? We’ve heard this request from our biggest repeat customers, and the dev team at Purple Dot is working on a way to display all Purple Dot pre-orders on the same page as your pre-orders made before January 8th.

We’ll have more news to share about this upgrade in the coming weeks, but we’ve made it a top priority and plan to roll this out ASAP.

UPDATE: PayPal Integration

Finally, we know that PayPal is very important to our customers, and we are looking at options to move up this integration as soon as possible. The final PayPal rollout schedule will be determined next week, and once that is set in stone, we will start sharing that plan with our customers. Rest assured that Limited Run, Purple Dot, and PayPal are working together daily to negotiate the fastest way to get this payment system back for pre-orders.

Again, we thank everyone for your honest feedback and continued support of physical games. We’re working hard to make Limited Run the go-to place for the best physical releases, and your input is very important to this process. We’ll be back with more news very soon. Limited Run December Digital Digest

DIGITAL DIGEST | NOVEMBER 2023

We’re going to start off this year’s blog with something heartfelt. More than anything this holiday season, we want to thank you all for your amazing support of physical games. Your support is everything to us, and we can’t wait to roll into 2024 with more amazing games to share with you.

Until then, let’s wrap up December with some important news about…

New year! Same Blowout Sale! Slightly different time!

For those of you who are new to LRG: at the beginning of each year, we take stock of what’s left over in our warehouse and put it up for sale, giving the world a second chance to pick up anything they might have missed from our back catalogue. This is the annual Blowout Sale, and we’re going to change something up this year.

We’ve been open this year about updating and streamlining our shipping and production processes to get games out faster to you all. We’re investing in even more tools, machinery, and software to make fulfillment in 2024 as streamlined as possible. There’s still a long way to go, and we’ll admit that there have been bumps in the road, but we’re already seeing the fruits of our labors pay off with new Standard Editions flying out of our warehouse ahead of schedule.

To keep those gears greased, we’ve decided to push back 2024’s Blowout Sale, allowing our shipping team to work uninterrupted through the next few weeks to keep pumping out those games and continue upgrades to our shipping center.

But logistics aside, we bet you’re wondering when you can raid our site for leftovers. We’ve decided to hold our Blowout event on the most holy of gamer holidays…(checks notes)...American President’s Day…?

Yep, that’s Monday, February 19th, 2024. We’ll have more details to share about the event in the coming weeks. Until then…

Oh yeah, and speaking of Bill & Ted…

LRG Clear Out Sale

One of the many entanglements a physical game publisher will inevitably face is the matter of licensing. Behind every physical game or product is a team of lawyers and contract negotiators spinning a thick web of stipulations

We manage it so you don’t have to, but nothing can change the fact that sometimes licenses expire.

As a result, we will be clearing out games and merch that we cannot sell after 1/31/23. You’ll be able to find items in this collection in EXTREMELY limited quantities.

This sale runs from today through the 31st at 6pm ET. Items will be full price on day one of the event, but EVERYTHING must go, so we’ll discount these games daily, with the lowest possible price (50% off) for each item going live on the last day.

Choose your strategy: Will you secure your copy right away, or wait for a deal at the risk of stock running dry?

(Please note that all purchases during this sale are FINAL, and no cancellations or exchanges can be honored due to the extremely limited nature of these items. We’ll be getting these out fast as well, so make sure that your address is correct when making your order—there may not be enough time to accommodate address changes!)

December 2-5-8 Milestone Updates

Every month, we comb through and send out updates for titles whose pre-order periods ended two, five, or eight months before and hit your inbox with a status update. If you’ve missed our emails (check your spam!), here’s a big ol’ batch of milestone updates for you!

2 Month Old

Standard Editions Currently Printing (all platforms unless specified)

  • Vagante (Switch, PS4 copies are shipping)
  • Legend of Ixtona
  • They Are Billions
  • Jurassic Park: Classic Games Collection (Xbox, all other platforms now shipping)
  • Gargoyles: Remastered (PS4, all other platforms now shipping)

Deluxe & Collector’s Editions

Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection - Classic and Prehistoric Editions

  • Classic Edition: SteelBooks are the last item needed to complete the Classic Edition, which are undergoing a final approval process before undergoing final manufacturing. We’re expecting these to arrive in Q1 2024!
  • Prehistoric Edition: Items are beginning to be manufactured, and we’ll be able to narrow down a new ETA once we’re deeper into that step. Until then, we’re holding strong to our early Q3 2024 estimate for completion!

TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge - Anniversary Edition - Classic Edition

  • These editions are undergoing final assembly and will hit our warehouse right before the end of the year. Shipping will pick up in full starting in Q1 2024!

Gargoyles: Remastered - Classic and Collector’s Editions

  • The last items we need to complete both editions is the included SteelBook, which should arrive in our warehouse in the next few weeks. Final assembly and shipping is slated to commence in Q1 2024.

Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties: Definitive Edition - Collector’s Edition

  • We’re finishing up our item samples now and sitting on a big box of ties, so suffice it to say that the production of this Collector’s Edition is sliding right along! We’ll have these done by the beginning of Q2 2024!

5 Months

Alien Isolation- Collector’s Editions:

  • Standard and VHS Classic Editions are shipping, so all that’s left is the Collector’s Edition. We’re happy to report that production is on schedule, and final assembly is waiting only on the Sevastopol Station replica. These are slated to arrive at our warehouse early next year, so we continue to estimate completion in Q1 2024.
The Good Life - Collector’s Editions:
  • Collector’s Editions are currently in assembly! These will be finishing up in the next few weeks and hitting our shipping line in Q1 2024! See you soon, Rainy Woods!

The Three Stooges

  • Carts are undergoing final testing before production ramps up. Accounting for the time it takes and some slowdown in manufacturing turnarounds from the Lunar New Year, we’re expecting the finished carts in our warehouse early in Q2 2024!

8 Months

moon - Collector’s Edition

  • We’re on track to ship out in Q1 2024, with the final two items needed in transit to us right now. There’s often a little bit of congestion with our assembly and shipping partners around the holidays, but we’ve secured an assembly slot for this edition and should have them in our warehouse in January. After the final QA check, we’ll get these shipped out to you in Q1 2024.

Night Trap GBA

  • Carts are undergoing final testing before production ramps up. Accounting for the time it takes and some slowdown in manufacturing turnarounds from the Lunar New Year, we’re expecting the finished carts in our warehouse early in Q2 2024! That’s a little later than expected, but we’re doing everything we can to ensure that these carts finish and ship as quickly as possible!

SJ Games is back with a broader, brighter, and more ambitious new NES game: the adorable Skate Cat, on sale now at coyotesuccess. I mean look at this cat. It’s ridiculously cute.

Some of you may remember a while back when Limited Run published a physical NES cartridge called Kubo 3… the story of a gunslinging turtle designed and developed by a seven year old. SJ Games, as the young man is known, and Dale Coop, his father, collaborated together to create a full-featured new title for the Nintendo Entertainment system. You can read that whole story here.

SJ Games is back with a broader, brighter, and more ambitious new NES game: the adorable Skate Cat, on sale now at coyotesuccess. I mean look at this cat. It’s ridiculously cute.

SkateCat Gameplay
A kid made this. He’s accomplished more in 11 years than I have in 44.

Anyway, we caught up with SJ and Dale to ask some questions about their latest retro-inspired creation. If you wanna buy this fantastic new NES cartridge (complete with box), you’ve only got until Sunday night, so don’t hesitate.

You're back! It's been a while since Kubo... how old is SJ GAMES now?

SJ: I'm now 11 years old.

DC: It's been a little over 3 years since KUBO 3, the previous game from SJ Games, was released. Seiji has grown a lot since then. He's a pre-teen who isn't afraid to express his ideas and is always curious.

So... why Skate Cat? What was the genesis of this design?

SJ: We adopted a cat last year. Her name is Soja. Also, I'm really into skateboarding; I've been taking skateboarding lessons since last year. So, I wanted to create a video game combining these two passions, a cat on a skateboard.

DC: After the release of Kubo 3, Seiji received many congratulations and encouragement messages. On my end, I continue working on NES projects. Seiji was more motivated than ever to create a new NES game.

You're a seasoned NES developer now. What lessons did developing Skate Cat teach you about designing games for the Nintendo?

SJ: I've learned a lot working on my games: how NESmaker software works, the limitations of the NES, such as using only 3 colors per sprite for characters and not being able to display more than 8 sprites on the same line on the screen. So, I have to think about how to design my characters and where to place them on the screens. On Skate Cat, it was a bit more challenging to create the levels because I wanted to make levels quite different, and it was difficult to come up with new ideas.

DC: For Skate Cat, I implemented numerous features, whether for the general game physics, certain levels, or optimizing the code to overcome space limitations and the slowness of the game engine. Not to mention the hours spent fixing bugs found during testing phases. But it was genuinely interesting and exciting. With each project, collaborating with SJ (or Raftronaut, who composed the entire soundtrack of the game) is my favorite part—exchanging, sharing, and progressing all in the same direction. It's a very enriching adventure for SJ.

What makes Skate Cat fun? What are you proud of about this game?

SJ: Firstly, I'm proud of my graphics. And then, of completing this project. I worked for over a year on creating Skate Cat. Skate is unique because it's a cat on a skateboard in a platform game... the physics are different and more slippery. And it's cute.
DC: Personally, I'm really proud to see the final product, the physical edition release, and the reception from players. The game receives a lot of positive feedback when we showcase it at conventions.

What's next on the horizon?

SJ: Perhaps a new game with a new animal, but I won't say more because it hasn't started yet.

DC: It's still too early to talk about it. Many things are changing in Seiji's life; he's growing up and starting to show interest in other platforms... so we'll see what his new project will be. I hope to still be part of it. In the meantime, we continue to share our activity at conventions, discuss NES game creation... and we hope to participate in conventions in the USA in 2024 (maybe Midwest Gaming Classic?).

Thanks again to all supporters of SJ Games projects, as well as the entire coyotesuccess team for their trust, their amazing work and support, and Jared for this opportunity to share our experience.

Hope to see you very soon!

It’s been a retro, throwback-filled month at LRG! We’ve got old-school RPGs in spades, all-new retro rereleases of Jurassic Park, and Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties is bringing it back to 1993 all through Sunday. Let’s reminisce on the month we just had in this, our latest Digital Digest!

The Story is Over When I Say It Is!

Let's plug Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties: Remastered one more time before we flush it down the drain (until its digital release on December 8th, that is).

While at Portland Retro Gaming Expo, our Plumbers team got in front of a crowd and did a little panel about remaking this game. Jeremy Parish was there, too. You can watch the whole thing right here, right above this paragraph.

And then you can pre-order the physical edition, the merch, or the novelization of Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties: Remastered before pre-orders close on Sunday!

A Special Update on Shantae Statue Production!coyotesuccess Shantae Statue

There she is! After much careful refinement, we have a ready-to-manufacture prototype of our 20th Anniversary Shantae Statue.

We’ll let everyone know how manufacturing is going via email updates over the next several months. Until then, start planning where Shantae will live in your home!

And speaking of Shantae, we’ll have some information about Shantae Advance early next year.

Go for the Gold!Persona 4 Golden Midnight Channel Edition

Persona 4 Golden is here. Starting today, we’ve entered a golden period where you can pre-order everything in our Persona Collection—Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, all the Collector’s Editions, AND all the merch! Make your reservations now, Persona Uberfans!

We’ve also been listening to your feedback, and we wanted to make a slight tweak to our physical edition of Persona 4 Golden. It all goes back to the Vita here at LRG, so we’ve added a reversible cover featuring the PSVIta cover art to the Standard Edition.Persona 4 Golden

Pre-orders launch today, so check out the collection.

Playing your role!

This is a great month to be an RPG fan at LRG! We’ve got a grand total of five amazing turn-based role-playing adventures for you to pick up. Let’s tally them up:

Another Crusade - a traditional RPG set in a quaint wooden puppet world- takes cues from a certain plumber’s first RPG outing with its timing-based attacks and humor. Check out our throwback Classic Edition - exclusively for Switch - before pre-orders close next weekend!

Infinite Links - Nothing says RPG like KEMCO! Infinite Links features quintessential RPG gameplay for those who crave the grind. Check it out for its quaint pixel art and colorful characters, and expand your KEMCO collection today!

Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden - These are hit games for a reason. Representing some of the best in Atlus’ catalog, these dark coming-of-age stories speak to all of us, even if we aren’t Japanese high school students.

This Way Madness Lies - Looking for something that’s all killer, no filler? This Way Madness Lies is the latest from Zeboyd. It’s fast-paced, bite-sized, and wittier than the Bard himself. If you like magical girls, William Shakespeare, and turn-based action, this might be the game for you!

See anything you like? You can learn more about these games on our website!

A boy and His Blob Retro CollectionImagine this: it’s 1989, and you’re sitting two feet from the TV screen with an NES controller in your hand. Your mom just yelled from the kitchen, “Your eyes will cross if you keep sitting that close to the screen!” A song reminiscent of Indiana Jones blares triumphantly, and the title rolls up on the screen. Here you are, a Boy on the brink of a huge adventure with a newly found friend — a blob from the planet of Blobolonia. It is up to this unlikely friendship (and your mad controller skills) to save Blob’s home planet from the evil Emperor, who will stop at nothing to keep the candy-loving Blobolonians from their sweets.

Now remember that it's actually 2023, and instead, you’re holding a PlayStation 5 controller. Maybe you’re still two feet from the TV, but it's more likely you’re sitting on the couch and squinting at the words because you don’t want to go get your glasses. Regardless, the Boy and his best friend, Blob, are on your screen, and your mission, should you choose to accept it, is still to save Blobolonia using the best weapon you’ve got — jelly beans. This fall, Ziggurat Interactive with coyotesuccess’ Carbon Engine™, is proud to bring A Boy and His Blob™: Retro Collection to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 on October 17, 2023, and PC coming shortly thereafter on Steam and GOG.

The Retro Collection is a two-episode saga, including the original A BOY AND HIS BLOB: TROUBLE ON BLOBOLONIA (Nintendo Entertainment System™) and THE RESCUE OF PRINCESS BLOBETTE (Nintendo Game Boy™), that will lead you on many exciting adventures with delicious surprises and comical characters.

From the creator of Pitfall!, A Boy and His Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia is a puzzle platformer where a Boy discovers an alien blob-like creature seeking to save his planet of Blobolonia from an evil emperor. The two team up with a plan to feed the candy-loving Emperor the worst of all things — VITAMINS! You set off armed with 14 jelly beans, each one transforming the blob into a different tool or asset to traverse the map.

To make it easier on the player, the developer used mnemonic devices to help you remember what each jelly bean does. “Tangerine Trampoline” has a rhythm to it, and the punch flavor makes the blob into a hole, a play on the word “Hole Punch.” The fan favorite of course is the Ketchup bean, placed into the game because sometimes the AI-programmed blob would get stuck in the environment, and the bean would allow him to “catch up.”
Released only a year later, The Rescue of Princess Blobette brought the adventures of Boy and Blob to Game Boy. Using the same style of gameplay, the two set off on an adventure to rescue the princess from impending doom at the hands of the antagonistic Alchemist within Blobolonia’s Royal Castle.

The Retro Collection brings these two delightful games together in both the US and Japanese versions. With modern-day quality-of-life upgrades like trophies (on PS4/5), filters to change the appearance of the game, and save states so that when those pesky worms take you down, you don’t have the 80’s experience of starting alllllllll the way from the beginning.

Get your jelly bean fix starting October 17, 2023 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.

So…Do They Wear Ties, or Not?

We’re not going to beat a dead horse about how bad this game is, but we will tell you again and again why we thought it would be a good idea to remaster this monstrosity. Check out the video above or read this blog to find out why we took on this terrible, terrible endeavor.

And you can pre-order the damn thing right now.

BABY BABY BABY BABY BABY!Persona 3 Potable Collector's Edition

This was hard for us to keep under wraps!

Fans looking to reserve both games will be able to get it all on one order when the pre-order periods overlap from October 27th through November 12th!

Pre-orders for the physical editions of Persona 3 Portable open today! Reserve yours now!

September 2-5-8 Milestone Updates

Every month, we comb through and send out updates to titles whose pre-order periods ended two, five, or eight months before and hit your inbox with a status update. If you’ve missed our emails, here’s a big ol’ batch of milestone updates for you!

2 Months Old

Standard Editions Currently Printing (all platforms unless specified)

  • Anodyne 2: Return to Dust
  • Alien: Isolation
  • Batora: Lost Haven (Switch)
  • The Good Life (Switch)
  • Q.U.B.E. 2
  • Redemption Reapers (Switch)
  • Astro Aqua Kitty (PS5)
  • Nobody Saves the World (Switch)
  • Hyper Gunsport
  • Odencat's Paradise Collection

Production on these games will finish in Q4 2023, so start making room on your shelf!

Deluxe, Classic and Collector's Editions + Retro Carts

Alien: Isolation

  • All of the components included in the Classic Edition are deep in manufacturing, with completion set for Q4 2023, barring any unexpected delays.
  • After final approvals, Collector's Edition components are also beginning the manufacturing process. We don't have a final ETA for the Collector's Edition yet, so we'll be back with another progress report in three month's time in the 5-month milestone email.

The Three Stooges

  • Pending some final tweaks to the ROMs that will come in October, both the Game Boy Advance and NES versions of The Three Stooges are ready for manufacturing. We're currently estimating completion in Q1 2024, but we'll check in again in a few months to let you know how production is going.

The Good Life

  • Final sampling is occurring on the Collector's Edition components, and then it's off to the races! We'll let you know in our next milestone update how manufacturing is going.

Nobody Saves the World

  • We're only waiting on the pins to complete manufacturing for the Deluxe Editions. We'll send everything off to be assembled in Q4 2023. If it isn't in your hands before the 5-month mark, we'll give you a final ETA in our next progress report email.

    5 Months Old

    Akka Arrh

    • The last standard editions to go out will be the PS5 copies. The build for the physical edition needs just one more update before it can go to print. We expect this to be completed soon, and PS5 copies will ship in Q4 2023.
    • Meanwhile, Deluxe Editions components are all here! We're just waiting for that final PS5 edition to arrive before the entire collection goes to get assembled. They should finish and ship in Q4 2023!

    Night Trap GBA

    • We are still awaiting corrections to the ROM, but all other approvals needed to begin manufacturing are complete. Night Trap GBA is going to miss Q4 2023, but we'll have another milestone update later this year to let you know how this project is progressing!

    moon Collector's Edition

    • We're deep in production on all components included in the moon Collector's Edition. The process is going smoothly, and we can expect the final products to ship early in Q1 2024. We'll give you a tighter ETA in the 8-month milestone update.

    Curse of the Dead Gods

    • Collector's Editions are being assembled! Get your address changes in now, because we expect these to start shipping in Q4 2023!

    Shredders:

    • All items are complete and these bundles are being prepped to ship. These should start leaving our warehouse in Q4 2023!

    Lunark:

    • The Standard PlayStation Editions are being manufactured now and will arrive at our warehouse in the coming weeks, with shipping to start in Q4 2023!
    • Deluxe Editions are ready to go minus those PlayStation games! Once we get those in, the whole collection can go into final assembly, with shipping to occur in Q4 2023.

    8 Months Old

    KONAMI Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection

    • While PS4 copies are currently shipping, we apologize for the delay in getting the Standard Switch copies into customer hands. As we reported in our last update, there have been some hangups with the final physical build of the game that are still being resolved. However, the developer has pinpointed the issue and we’ll be able to go to print soon. Though Arcade Classics will miss this quarter, we should start shipping Standard Editions in Q4.
    • Classic Edition components are complete, and assembly will commence once the Switch copies are in hand. We’re expecting these to finish and ship in Q4 2023, so you’ll have another gorgeous silver box to add to your collection by New Year’s!
    • Ultimate Editions are not far behind! Though many components are still in manufacturing, like the art book and SteelBook, we anticipate their completion soon after Classic Editions ship. Currently, we expect to start shipping in Q1 2024, but we’ll be back with a tighter update in Q4 after the Classic Editions ship.

An Argument for the Existence of a Plumbers Don't Wear Ties Remaster

To do it for the meme, or not do it for the meme, that is the question.

      BY ELEANOR MITHUN

For many, the resurrection of Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties began in 2009 with one angry Nerd. But Plumbers had been written about and discussed many times before its rediscovery in Angry Video Game Nerd episode 74. It earned a 3% rating when reviewed in PC Gamer in 1994 and continued to haunt the minds of gamers for 15 years, “entertaining” all who sat down to play

PC Gamer, July 1994, pg. 75

James Rolfe’s propulsion of the title into the minds of his millions of viewers gave Plumbers stronger and longer legs than ever before, and it was through his video that many of us here at LRG became aware of this title’s existence.

So, Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties is bad. I’m not going to lie. We’ve left it as it is. There was no fixing it. Well, we made it look a little better, but we can only do so much. But gameplay-wise, we couldn’t fix it. More importantly, we didn’t want to fix it. I strain at using the words “artistic integrity” here, but the truth is that the forthcoming remaster of Plumbers deserves to be seen as it was, as it is, as much as a masterpiece like The Legend of Zelda or The Last of Us does. The unfortunate truth is that art is subjective, and if I learned anything from my namby-pamby liberal arts education, it’s that if a piece of media strikes out to make you feel something, anything, it’s art.Plumbers Dont Wear TiesSo how does Limited Run justify rereleasing this dating sim from hell upon the masses of 2023? It’s simple, really: the important part of the game is not the game but everything around it. I don’t think that people go to midnight showings of films like Plan 9 From Outer Space or Eraserhead or Pink Flamingos because they are works of cinematic high art. Cinephiles go to these events to be among like-minded peers, to discuss the making of the films, to gush over their favorite directors, and to mock the hokey bits. We enjoy things like Angry Video Game Nerd, Mystery

Science Theater, and Vinegar Syndrome because they pluck media out of obscurity, tip their hats to the history and culture around a title, and transform it into a new, entertaining product for fans and newcomers. This is one of the most important goals of the Plumbers remaster. It’s not just a re-release of the game. It’s a gentle cradling of it in the context through which it was birthed.

And what is that context? Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties created such a karmic black hole from its unpleasantness that the universe at least gave it an interesting backstory to make up for it. First, you have Jeanne Basone in the lead role, a stuntwoman and actress well known for depicting Hollywood of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. Jeanne’s testimony of the game's making was essential to our work remastering. And speaking of making the game, Plumbers was shot over two days, and tight timelines are always a sure sign that your production is going to be special. And the story continues long after the game’s release. The PC port of the game vanished to time until a copy was uncovered decades later at a university in Muncie, Indiana, of all places. I’m honestly surprised there isn’t a CIA agent, a mob boss, or some other wackadoodle curveball in the story. When Limited Run spent real American dollars to acquire this title, we set out to catalog the whole sordid story. The real product Limited Run seeks to put out is not the terrible game but elaborations on facts like the ones I just shared above, told by the people who were there—by everyone who played a part in this game’s greater story. In this remaster, you’ll find hours of interviews with those wonderful folks, including Jeanne Basone, James Rolfe, experts like Kelsey Lewen of the VGHF, our development team, our media curators, and many other wonderful people who gave their precious time alive to talk about this game with us. Presenting these interviews alongside the game, rather than just doing a straightforward documentary, is the best way we know how to put Plumbers in context for you.

And hey, if you like fun, we did add a little dungeon-crawling mode to the game, and we’ve ensured that the presentation is something that you would expect from a Plumber’s Don’t Wear Ties game in 2023. I can safely say that we did not do it for the meme, but there’s no harm in a little memeing from time to time, so the remaster does reflect that important part of the story as well. After all, we are keeping the integrity of this art intact.

It’s just more Duchamp than DaVinci. Because plumbers. Toilet. Plumbing. Haha.Plumbers Don't Wear Ties Standard Edition Announcement BannerPre-orders for the physical version of Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties: Definitive Edition launch tomorrow at 10am ET. The digital version for all platforms launches on December 8th, 2023, just in time for Christmas 🎄

      PAX WEST 2023!Pax West 2023

In case you missed this week’s announcement, we’re returning to PAX West next week! We’ll have the usual awesome selection of games and books in tow, but it’s the convention special you’re after, isn’t it? Well, we’re happy to announce the third installment in our VHS tape editions from a galaxy far, far away: STAR WARS: Knights of the Old Republic II! You’ll be able to pick them up at booth #1939 while supplies last!

But that’s not the only reason to stop by our booth. Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore was one of our biggest LRG3 surprises, and you can finally get your hands on some gameplay! We’ll be demo’ing Arzette and another unannounced game from our friends at The Mix all weekend, so come by and meet some games for the first time!

Speaking of The Mix, they’re hosting a free offsite event alongside their digital showcase at PAX West this year, and coyotesuccess will be tagging along with merch, games, and special guests. And guess what? It’s open to the public (with registration).

So We Heard You Like VHS Tapes…Mythforce on Console

Who hasn’t wanted to play their favorite Saturday Morning Cartoon?

Since 1983, when Dragon’s Lair took arcades by storm, we’ve all known that cartoon graphics and video games go together like peanut butter and chocolate. But it’s not just the graphics that make Mythforce one of our must-pre-order titles of the summer—it’s the vibe!

The epic team-up of Victoria the valiant Knight, Rico the charming Rogue, Maggie the wise Mage, and Hawkins the deadly Hunter, and their adventure in a land of sword and sorcery, fits right in beside the fantasy ensembles and worlds of the likes of He-Man and Thundercats. It’s a great environment for roguelike gameplay and first-person action that lets you step into the shoes of a courageous champion.

But you won’t face the tyranny of the vampire lord, Deadalus alone! You can adventure through crypts and castles with your friends in local or online multiplayer. Be the dream team you and your buddies wanted to be on the playground all those years ago!Mythforce VHS Edition

Want to take nostalgia to the next level? Mythforce gets the LRG VHS treatment in its collector’s edition! With a clamshell outer case, VHS box, and extra prizes too cool for a cereal box, it’s like Mythforce has been around since the 80s.

      August 2-5-8 Milestone UpdatesLRG Production

Every month, we comb through and send out updates to titles whose pre-order periods ended two, five, or eight months before and hit your inbox with a status update. If you’ve missed our emails, here’s a big ol’ batch of milestone updates for you!

      2 Months Old

Standard Editions Currently Printing (all platforms unless specified)

      • Wytchwood
      • Sword of Elpisia
      • Black Book
      • Q.U.B.E. 10th Anniversary
      • Gimmick! Special Edition
      • Trip World DX (PS4 & PS5)

Production on these games will finish very soon, with shipping to begin as soon as they arrive and pass quality assurance checks. Make sure your address is up to date, and expect your games to ship by early Q4 2023!

Eskimo Bob & Alfonzo’s Arctic Adventure

      • Cart manufacturing is about to begin. This process takes a little longer for retro games, so we’ll be back with another update in Q4 2023 once we have a more accurate timeline for their arrival at our warehouse. For those that bought the dual pack, we’ll have everything ready by the time carts arrive, so both individual packs and dual packs should ship one right after the other.

      Getsufumaden: Undying Moon

      • Standard Editions are complete and will be shipping from our warehouse soon! The included art book is the last item we’re waiting for to complete the Collector’s Edition. Production will complete for that item in Q4, and we plan to ship this Collector’s Edition soon after the book arrives in our warehouse.

Trip World DX & Retro Trip World Carts

      • Switch Standard Editions: We’re getting the proofs for the foil GDQ to confirm they’re foily enough before placing our order for the entire run. Though they’re a little behind the PlayStation copies, we still plan on shipping them early in Q4 2023!
      • DX Collector’s Editions: These are coming along great, with everything currently in manufacturing or en route to us. We’ll be conservative with our estimate and predict they will ship to customers early in Q1, but we’ll return with a new update in Q4.
      • Retro Editions: Carts have gone to manufacturing! We’ve had no issues getting these to manufacturing, but retro re-releases usually take longer than modern games. We’ll be back with a tighter ETA in next quarter’s update!

      Gimmick! Special Edition Collector’s Editions

      • Our cousins over at Clear River Games are supplying some of the components for this one while we work on the others. Though production is going smoothly, this one is still pretty early in the making. We’ll have a final ETA in our next update in November!

      5 Months Old

      Doodle World: Redrawn

      • Manufacturing is underway! We expect the finished units to arrive in our warehouse at the beginning of October, with shipping to commence in Q4 2023.

      Skelattack Classic Edition

      • With Standard Editions complete, we’re moving on to kitting our Classic Editions in the coming weeks. Completion and shipping are slated for the beginning of Q4 2023.

A Boy and His Blob: Retro Collection

      • Standard Editions across all platforms are in manufacturing and will ship in Q3 2023! All components for the Collector’s Editions are almost complete and are scheduled to start shipping early in Q4!
      • PC Version: the PC build of the game is undergoing final development. We expect this version to finish in Q4 2023 after the console versions are complete!

      D: The Game

      • Components and assets are undergoing final approval from the rightsholder, and we are ready to move into production ASAP. We expect the PC and 3DO versions to finish in Q4 2023, but we’ll keep you updated if that changes.

Shin Chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation: Collector’s Edition

      • Though the Switch versions are complete and shipping, we are still awaiting the arrival of our PS4 copies. These are manufacturing and will finish soon, so expect your copy to ship this quarter (before the end of September!).
      • The last item we’re waiting on for the Collector’s Edition is the enamel pin, which is in manufacturing now! After kitting, we expect this edition to start shipping in late Q3/early Q4!

      Steel Assault: Collector’s Edition

      • The only item we’re waiting on for this CE is the OST, which is being made right now! After it arrives and your final product is assembled, we expect shipping to commence on the line between Q3 and Q4 of this year!

      Xtreme Sports:

      • Switch copies of Xtreme Sports will be ordered with our next batch of games from the factory. We expect them to finish and ship by the end of Q3 2023, but we’ll let you know if we experience any delays!
      • Meanwhile, Game Boy Color carts are in manufacturing now! We expect their arrival in our warehouse at the beginning of Q4, with shipping to follow soon after they arrive.

      RWBY Arrowfell:

      • With Xbox copies shipping, let’s check in on the other Standard Editions. PS4, PS5, and the original Switch variant copy are in manufacturing and will arrive in our warehouse shortly. The Team BRIR variant covers are undergoing their final digital proof, and final products will finish up shortly after the rest of the Standard Editions.
      • Checking in on the Collector’s Edition, we’re only waiting for the OST and acrylic standee to finish production. Once they are here, assembly is ready to go, and final shipping is estimated to begin near the beginning of Q4 2023.

      8 Months Old

NEOGEO POCKET Color Selection Vol. 2 - Collector’s Edition

      • The art book is the last item in manufacturing. These full-color books take a little extra time to manufacture, but we expect them to finish in the next few weeks. Shipping for this Edition is on track for Q3 2023.

Grim Fandango Remastered - PC + Collector’s Edition

      • Sampling is occurring on the Bone Wagon, the last component needed to enter the manufacturing period. We expect all components to come in by Q3, with the final shipment to fans in Q4 2023.

      Triangle Box Promo Item

      • Your bonus item is almost complete. We’ve got a final sample in hand, and these will begin shipping near the end of Q3. An email detailing how you will receive your box is to come!

      Atari Recharged Collection 1 & 2

      • Switch Standard copies are in our warehouse and will ship soon. PS4 & PS5 copies are on order, and the dual packs will follow shortly, with everything shipping in Q3 2023.

      Bloodshore

      • These are now in production! Copies of Bloodshore will begin shipping this quarter!

      Digital Digest |July 2023

As far as big months go, this was one for the record books! The internet is buzzing with news that LRG is helping to bring back Clock Tower, Tomba, Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties and MORE! But let’s give it up for our real hero, Gex, who saved E3 and brought back hope to thousands in these trying times.

We’re not just resting on the awesomeness of this LRG3, though. Our shipping department is cracking out orders, and we’re producing some awesome stuff you can reserve now, like TMNT soundtracks, Telenet Shooting Collection, and the long-awaited Castlevania Advance Collection.

Let’s wrap up July, starting with a recap of…

      LRG3 2023

It was a big year! We announced tons of all-new digital and physical releases from old friends like WayForward and KONAMI and new partners like Seedy Eye Software and Rightstick Studios. It’s honestly hard to convey how wild these announcements were via text, so check out the above recording of the conference and the list before to see what you missed!

Here’s a full list of everything we announced in alphabetical order:

Now, don’t tell Gex, but this blogger’s favorite reveal this year was Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore! This 2D adventure game is the spiritual successor to a very infamous pair of CD-i, uh, classics, that we’re not 100% sure if we’re allowed to mention by time. But this time, it seeks to be the very best that game can be, featuring tighter gameplay, loads of humor, and returning talent from artist Rob Dunlavey and VO talents Jeffrey Rath and Bonniejean Wilbur. Limited Run and Seedy Eye Software are psyched to bring you the game this year. Now, check out the trailer below!

      Join the fight against Evil…again!

      Castlevania Advance Collection Ultimate Edition

We led our LRG3 announcements off with Castlevania Advance Collection, one of the most highly requested and hotly anticipated titles in LRG history, and we’re glad to say that TODAY we are taking reservations for this amazing Castlevania Collection. Let’s take a little tour!

Let’s start with the Standards. We’re offering fans their choice of four amazing covers, one for each game included in the collection. Choose a cover from one of the Game Boy Advance titles or the Dracula X cover. Find the one that calls to you?

But what if you want them all? Bump up to the Classic Edition! You’ll get all four covers, plus a poster and a soundtrack selection, all in a gorgeous silver box!

SteelBook fans, you’ll want to start with the Advanced Edition. You’ll get the four covers, the poster, the CD, plus the Steelbook! This collection stores in an oversized throwback- style box, sized appropriately to fit everything inside!

Finally, we’re offering another premium Ultimate Edition for those serious CV fans. This Castlevania-sized edition includes some amazing extras like a comprehensive CD soundtrack, lithographs, a shadowbox, and a set of hand-drawn maps from our very own Jeremy Parish, the man who coined the term “Metroidvania.”

On top of all of that, we’ve got a big selection of exclusive merch, including pins, a skate deck, a shirt and a set of soundtracks from the Game Boy Advance Castlevania games on vinyl and cassette tape!

Pre-orders for the Castlevania Advance Collection launch TODAY! You have until September 10th to reserve your copies!

      July 2-5-8 Milestone Updates

      Limited Run Production updates

Every month, we comb through and send out updates to titles whose pre-order periods ended two, five, or eight months before and hit your inbox with a status update. If you’ve missed our emails, here’s a big ol’ batch of milestone updates for you!

      2 Months Old

Standard Editions Currently Printing (all platforms unless specified)

      • Justice Chronicles
      • Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack
      • Deathwish Enforcers (Switch & PS4)
      • OneShot: World Machine Edition
      • Legend of Tianding (PS4 & PS5)

Production on these items will finish very soon, with shipping to begin as soon as they arrive and pass quality assurance checks (Q3 2023).

      Deathwish Enforcers

      • Production is moving along on the Deluxe Edition, and we should have the Switch and PS4 Editions wrapped up before the end of Q3 2023. PS5 production is slightly behind as we wait for the final build for that platform to finish, so those items may slip into late Q3 for the Standard Edition and early Q4 for the Deluxe Edition. You’ll hear from us again in October about the production status—if they haven’t already shipped to you!

      Minoria

      • Standard Editions are complete and will be shipping from our warehouse soon! Collector’s Edition production is coming along on time. Collector’s Editions are currently estimated to ship early in Q4, but we’ll come back with another update once it hits the 5-month milestone (if it hasn’t shipped beforehand).

      OneShot: World Machine Edition

      • With Standard’s finishing soon, let’s look at the Collector’s Edition. Final production samples are getting the O.K. from the developer, and we’ve jumpstarted production on the included lamp. So far, we’ve had no delays in production, so you can expect to see your Collector’s Edition in Q4 2023. We’ll have another update for you in three months once your pre-order hits its 5-month milestone!

The Legend of Tianding - Switch Standard Edition

      • Though the PlayStation versions are currently being pressed, the Switch versions have yet to start manufacturing. However, they will be a part of our next order of cartridges, so you won’t have to wait much longer. The Legend of Tianding will ship in Q3 2023, no matter what platform you chose!

      5 Months Old

      Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection

      • Standard PS4 Editions are in our warehouse and will begin shipping soon! However, the Switch copies are still pending manufacturing, pending a final developer build. Once we receive and send both Standard Editions, we will return with an updated ETA on the Classic and Ultimate Editions.

        Dustwind

        • PS4 copies are in our warehouse and will begin shipping ASAP for Q2 delivery. PS5 copies will finish manufacturing shortly and will ship in Q3.

        Hime's Quest

        • We have completed the approval process, and production is in full swing. The finished units are expected to be ready in approximately three months. We’re looking at Q3 for the final delivery of these.

        Night in the Woods

        • Switch copies are shipping, and PS4 Standard copies are nearly finished printing. As for the Collector’s Editions: All components are in production! The production item with the longest lead time (the acrylic scene) is expected to be in our hands in early July. After kitting, these will begin shipping in Q3.

          8 Months Old

          The Rumble Fish 2 - Collector’s Edition

          • The art book and strategy guide are the last two items in manufacturing. These full-color books take a little extra time to manufacture, but we expect them to finish in the next few weeks. Shipping for this Collector’s Edition is on track for Q3 2023.

          Full Throttle - PC + Collector’s Edition

          • All items are currently in manufacturing. We’re expecting this to ship near the end of Q3 2023.

Song in the Smoke - Deluxe Edition

          • Deluxe Editions have just arrived in our warehouse and are ready to ship!

          Undead Darlings - Deluxe Edition

          • All components are complete, and we expect to begin kitting these out very soon. Shipping will commence mid-Q3 2023.

Finding a new place or recently made a move? Make sure that your address is up-to-date. We don’t want any lost packages to put a damper on your gaming experience!

The Beginning of Endings - NES Endings Compendium, Vol. 1

          By Jared Petty

Let’s talk about game endings. We all have a favorite. For me, it’s the closing credits of Portal. For you, it might be Link’s Awakening, or Braid, or RDR.

We take game endings for granted now, but things weren’t always this way. Game endings were still something of a novelty in the NES era, at least in the realm of action games.

Now, some important video early games included definitive endings: Zork, Wizardry, and Ultima were all built around stories with clear victory conditions and a wrap-up to their relatively complex narratives. But this was largely a product of these games’ origins on computers. PCs could save games to tape and disk so that players could trudge through long, challenging adventures, and the relatively-high RAM of most computers allowed for more complex experiences. Also, there was no arcade owner standing behind your Apple II demanding quarter drops.

But action games were different. There wasn’t a story in Asteroids. You just shot rocks in space until you ran out of lives. Fun, but not built around any real sense of story. Arcade owners didn’t need stories. They needed simple, fun experiences that players could instantly comprehend, easy enough to pull them in, and difficult enough to eke another quarter out of them every couple of minutes.

A lot of early arcade and home video games were two-player sports, tank, or space battle simulations, and again, there was generally no real end beyond a winner determined by high score when time ran out.

Exceptions existed. Adventure by Atari boasted a complex story told almost entirely through blocky imagery, an epic quest across an open world to collect an enchanted chalice and return it to a gold castle. Bringing the magical cup into the final fortress triggered an explosive flashing celebration sequence and ended the game.

But the NES changed all that, and quickly. The blockbuster console hit American shores in the fall of 1985 with a slate of action and sports games including the incredible Super Mario Bros., which dared to taunt us at the end of each world: “The princess is in another castle.” We were finally rewarded at the end of 8-4 with a true victory message, still a rarity in games in America.

Later that year, Commando, Ghosts ‘n Goblins, and Gradius all gave us their original takes on the end-game celebration, and from then on, it was off to the races. Now, there are a LOT of NES games. Hundreds of them. And author Rey Esteban has spent years capturing and cataloging them all. Thus was born NES Endings Compendium Vol. 1: 1985-1989 from Press Run books, a comprehensive account of every NES game ending over that five year period: the good, the bad, and the ugly. It’s a beautiful book styled after classic gaming magazines of the era, backed with bright screenshots and detailed written accounts and context of every ending sequence. We’re proud of it!

It’s your chance to finally get a glimpse at the end of all those rental games you just couldn’t finish, or to catch the finale of every branching path of a multi-ending game. Even if you weren’t around for the Nintendo Entertainment System era, NES Endings Compendium is such a lush and gorgeous book that we guarantee you’re going to adore flipping through every one of its 296 pages.

NES Endings Compendium Vol. 1: 1985-1989 is available to purchase starting today at coyotesuccess. This isn’t a pre-order… these books are on-hand and ready to ship.

The book comes in two editions: a bodacious hardcover and a gnarly numbered Collector’s Edition in a slipcase complete with signed Certificate of Authenticity by the author and stunning commissioned art cards.

We’ve kept our heads down this June, packing and shipping TONS of orders, putting out all-new production updates straight to your inboxes, and preparing for LRG3. But that doesn’t mean we aren’t having a little fun with games like The Good Life, Alien: Isolation - The Collection, and Hyper Gunsport!

Let’s get on with June…starting with our BIGGEST announcement of the year:

          LRG3 is COMING!LRG3 Announment

LRG3 is set to broadcast on July 12th! Tune in via YouTube or Twitch at 4PM Eastern time to get a first look at some fantastic digital and physical titles. We’re showcasing collabs with some of our old friends, upcoming Carbon Engine titles, and titles we’ve helped bring into the world. And of course, you might hear some news about our old friends John and Jane…

It’s Turtle Time!Shredders Revenge Radical Edition Update

Let’s drop a quick update on TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge! We’re hitting the goals outlined in our last update, and we’re happy to announce that we’re just about at that sweet, sweet finish line for this collection. Manufacturing at its end, the Shadow Boxes are en route. We’re working with all our stakeholders to ensure that this is the most Radical Turtles game money can buy (which is a more fun way of saying that the suits need to sign off on the finished product—but that’s boring and corporate, and the Turtles are too cool for that kind of talk).

We’re holding fast to our ship ETA of Q3. Keep an eye on the socials because the marketing team will get pictures of this beast as soon as it hits the receiving dock!

Limited Run May Digital Digest 2023

We’ve filled our May up with yokai, both terrifying and adorable, Xenomorphs, witches, Newgrounds stars, and more craziness coming soon! Now, summer is imminent, and we’ve got some hot things going on around here.

This month, we’re also seeing some of the seeds we planted in our shipping initiatives blog starting to sprout, with tons of items shipping and production on Standard Editions coming down to just a few months. Things are going to really speed up this summer, so strap in and take a look at what’s going on right now, here on the last day of May, at Limited Run.

Take a Trip Through Trip World DX and Help Support Doctors Without Borders!GDQ Trip World Charity Banner

For the first time, coyotesuccess is partnering with Games Done Quick (GDQ) to raise money for Doctors Without Borders through the power of speedrunning. To support this amazing cause and kick off GDQ’s summer event, SGDQ, we’re putting out a special foil cover variant of our newly-released Trip World DX Switch physical edition.

We’re donating $5 to Doctors Without Borders USA for each foil cover Trip World DX game sold, with a minimum guaranteed donation of $10,000. We’ve also sent over some additional prizes to SGDQ’s event sweepstakes. Make sure you tune into SGDQ to see what’s in store!

You can pre-order this special version of Trip World DX or shop the entire collection until June 11th!

Bill and Lance will see you this Summer!

We’re almost at the finish line for the Contra Anniversary Collection! If you missed this month’s update, read our blog to see how the Ultimate Edition is coming along. You don’t need to wait much longer.

          May Production Upda—

Wait, huh, there don’t seem to be any production updates in this section…

That’s because starting today, we’re launching a new initiative to keep our customers better informed throughout the production process—The Milestone Update!

This is one part of our work to improve shipping times and customer service throughout 2023. At Limited Run, we believe that everyone should have a chance at their favorite game, so we’ve shied away from first-come-first-serve limited sales in favor of manufacturing enough games to meet the demand of the fans. Because of that, our items cannot go into manufacturing until the day after pre-orders end.

So you can see your items coming together at multiple stages of the process, every week, we’ll send out an email to eligible orders coming up on the 2, 5, or 8-month anniversary of pre-orders closing.

If you have an order hitting 8 months old this June, check your emails NOW! You should have an update on your game. 5-month emails will go out next week, and 2-month emails will follow the week after. Then we’ll start the cycle again in the first week of July, ad-infinitum.

The ULTIMATE Update on Contra Anniversary

          Collection: ULTIMATE EDITIONS

          Coming to you this summer!

Hey there—just wanted to give you a quick update on the Contra Anniversary Collection. We're almost done producing it, and things are looking great!

In our last update, we reported that things were going smoothly through our production process, and we’re happy to say that this remains the case. Ultimate Editions of Contra Anniversary Collection are still on track to ship in Q3 2023.

Here’s what is getting finished up this quarter:

          • Ultimate Outer Box—the boxes are in proofing ahead of final manufacturing. Once our samples look the way we need them to look (and we ensure they can fit all that finalized Contra swag inside), we’ll go ahead and get these printed and sent to us in a flash!
          • History of Contra Book—we’re printing these included hardcover books right now! We expect these to arrive in our warehouse for assembly by the end of the quarter.

Though we expect these outstanding components to arrive by the end of this quarter or the beginning of Q3, we estimate that the Ultimate Editions of Contra Anniversary Collection will begin shipping in Q3 2023.

If you ordered a Fan Bundle—these will ship out soon after the Ultimate Editions. Since they have so much awesome extra merch, they take just a little bit longer for our team to pack and ship!

Thank you so much for your support and your patience. We look forward to seeing these amazing Ultimate Editions in your hands soon!

Grabbing Crime Where the Sun Don’t Shine - Deathwish Enforcers

          By Jared Petty

Ever since the mid-70s, gamers have been teaming up to take down the computer. Dungeon-crawler Moria, born on college PLATO systems, was among the first to feature multiplayer cooperative gameplay. Early experiments like Dandy invited a pair of friends to work together to overcome hordes of AI enemies, and Gauntlet popularized and codified four-player action co-op in arcades.

There’s an old adage to video games that I happen to subscribe to: the more people you add to a brawler or shooter, the more fun it becomes. That seems to be the thinking behind the new Deathwish Enforcers, which draws obvious inspiration from Konami’s Sunsetriders, a colorful, four-player cooperative arcade run-and-gun. Deathwish swaps the old-west setting of Sunsetriders for the gritty, 70s-inspired big city, a grim, cynical cartoon landscape evocative of Hollywood revenge fantasies and grindhouse films. The vibe of Deathwish Enforcers sharply contrasts detailed cartoon sprite work with intensive violence and overt sexual imagery. “I think I was watching the second Dirty Harry movie…” said creator Chris Obritsch “…and at one point, he’s chasing this guy across the rooftops, and he falls through a skylight, and when they fall through the skylight, they fall into the middle of a porn shoot. And then I was just sitting there like, ‘why isn’t that in a video game? I want to make a video game about that.’ So I ended up going to my computer, and I started doing the sprites for a Dirty Harry-looking character.”

The juxtaposition can be jarring, a contrast of entertainment and R-rated film themes. There are game elements based on A Clockwork Orange, The Dead Pool, Warlock, Death Wish, and more. You can knock enemies out with a sock full of coins, dropkick hordes of undead, or get your Shinobi or Rolling Thunder fix. It’s a mash-up of ideas deeply committed to the ultra-violent exploitation movie tradition, a realm video games rarely enter. The physical edition of Deathwish Enforcers is on sale through this Sunday at coyotesuccess for Switch, PS4, and PS5. A special Classic Edition is also available for both platforms, including an oversized retro-styled clamshell case, Deathwish Enforcers original soundtrack, character art cards, and a badge pin.

If you want to play Deathwish Enforcers today, you can download it now on the Nintendo eShop or PlayStation Store!

          Atari Archive Vol 1

          Atari Archive Vol. 1: 1977- 1978

          By Jared Petty

I’ve dreamed of time travel since I was a kid, especially video game time travel. I was always interested in history, and doubly so in the history of video games. Even as a kid in the mid-1980s, I was conscious of the fact that I’d missed out on a lot. I had an Atari at home, sure. Lots of people did. But I also saw these other weird, old-looking systems in people’s houses when I visited that most certainly were not Atari products, things with names like Intellivision and Odyssey2 and Bally Astrocade. Books I read in the library told me of an even older era of games, an age of black-and-white arcade cabinets and home Pong and even of college kids fooling around on computers playing Spacewar. I wanted a time machine that took me back to when all these things were new, when I could see the commercials on TV, find them, play them, and discover even more new games.

That time machine arrived today in book form.

Atari Archive Vol. 1: 1977- 1978 chronicles the first two pivotal years in the life of the Atari VCS… an era of radical experimentation and fierce competition. Set in an age when video games had few precedents to draw from, Atari Archive lovingly depicts the brilliant and occasionally bizarre creations that defined the first era of home video games. Author Kevin Bunch draws from years of research to explain not just the content of Atari’s early works but the context around their creation, including extensive dives into the near-forgotten games released by rival companies.

Experience the genesis of video games through vibrant prose, insightful, original interviews, lovingly-rendered photography of box art, and painstakingly-captured screens pulled from original hardware.

Looking back over 45 years, it’s easy to see Atari’s success as an overnight sensation. Atari Archive demolishes that narrative. Instead, it shows Atari as a company challenged fiercely by creative competitor consoles, some of which you’ve probably heard of (like the Fairchild Channel F and Magnavox Odyssey2) and others you might never have known existed. Kevin Bunch systematically dissects competing games in feature-for-feature comparisons that explain who created them, how they differ from Atari’s offerings, and how they fared in the crowded early home console market. He also reaches outside the more obvious causes of Atari’s success (like solid game design) to less-self-apparent but equally important reasons (like Atari’s superior ability to pivot and meet government regulations).

          Author Kevin Bunch

Author Kevin Bunch spent years digging through ridiculous amounts of material and conducting interviews to piece this story together, weaving a tale of early video game history that’s being told truly comprehensively for the first time.

I’ve read most of the books out there about the VCS, and this one is my favorite. I hope you’ll give Atari Archive a chance. It’s on sale this very second at coyotesuccess.com. Atari Archive Vol. 1 is the latest book by Press Run, an imprint of coyotesuccess.

Atari Archive is on sale at LRG in standard hardcover and special numbered Collector’s Edition bundles with a hardcover book, slipcase, signed certificates, and papercrafts.

          Shredders Revenge Update

          Let's Talk Turtles! April 2023

          Shredder's Revenge Update

Hey, there Turtles fans. We’re back with another production update for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge. Unfortunately, we didn’t hit the production goals outlined in our last update, but we want to make sure that you know we’re working as hard as we can to get your PC and Radical Editions in your hands this quarter.

          BIG BOX PC EDITION

Readers, as you know, the mousepads did not arrive in time for a Q1 shipping date. They will, however, be here in the next few weeks, and then all we need to do is have our kitters put the whole PC package together. Shipping is still scheduled to happen in Q2 2023.

RADICAL EDITIONTMNT Shredder's Revenge Mini Arcade

All items, from the shadow box to that primo outer slipcover, are either in the final stages of manufacturing, en route to our warehouse, or waiting for assembly once all components arrive. However, because this edition is so chock full of awesome Turtles treasures, and we are getting reports of high congestion at the ports, we now estimate that the outstanding components will arrive close to the end of Q2, pushing assembly and shipping into early Q3 2023.TMNT Shredder's Revenge Strategy GuideWe apologize for the extra delay on these radical Radical Editions. We are working hard to get it to you as soon as possible, and we appreciate your patience. Until then, we’ve included some of our final manufacturing samples in this update. We want you to know that we aren’t skimping on the quality of this release, and we can’t wait to get these in your hands!Shredders Revenge Shadow box
